UK Sofa King
Okay, so we get random DMs all the time. But this one? Different. A delivery driver texted our rescue line around 2AM: "Found a Devon Rex behind a strip mall, shivering like crazy. He's just ribs and dust. I can't take him, please help." No need to send photos—we contacted our local rescue colleagues, and they arrived on the scene in about 30 mins.
Found him curled next to a drain pipe. Honestly? He was barely 1.7kg (that's like 3.7lbs). His coat was grey with filth, ears crusty, and every bone stuck out. But when I wrapped him in my hoodie, he let out this tiny broken purr — like he forgot he even could purr. That sound wrecked us. We called him Rocky right there. 'Cause he was gonna fight.
Rehab is a full-time job. We set up a recovery pen, special high-calorie food, and daily weigh-ins. Rocky went from zero appetite to screaming for breakfast — best sound ever. But then came the drama: our resident cat Suki (a pampered British Shorthair) was NOT having it. She hissed like a cobra every time she saw him through the gate. For two weeks, she patrolled the hallway like a furry prison warden. 😼
We did the whole slow intro: scent swapping, feeding on opposite sides of a door, calming diffusers. Rocky just blinked at her slowly and rolled over. Sweetest boy ever. Then one morning I caught Suki grooming his ears through the gate. Truce declared. Now they share the cat tree. (Don't tell Suki I told you.)
By week 8, Rocky went from 1.7kg to 3.4kg. His fur grew back in patches of caramel and brown, and his personality exploded — chasing springs, kneading every blanket, and following us like a shadow. WellSphinx covered all his medical bills, recovery food, neuter, vaccines, and even a heated bed (Devons get cold so fast). We don't wait for sponsors — we just act. That's our job.
Once Rocky was fully healed, healthy, and vaccinated, we started looking for the perfect adopter. Not just anyone — someone who understands Devon quirks (yes, the farts, the ear wax, the obsession with sleeping UNDER the duvet). Then we got a message from a lovely couple living in a quiet town somewhere in the UK — rolling hills, stone cottages, the whole Postcard vibe. 🏡☕
They'd previously owned a Sphynx with special needs, so they knew the breed inside out. After video calls, home checks, and a lot of excited questions ("does he like to burrow in blankets?"), we knew it was a match. WellSphinx funded the entire transport, health certificate, and even sent him off with a starter kit. The adopters renamed him "Archie" — meaning "genuine & bold". Perfect for a cat who survived the streets and now rules a British living room.
“Why would someone abandon a Devon Rex? Because of smelly poo? Gas? Oily skin? None of that is an excuse. At WellSphinx, we don't care if you're a show cat or a scraggly stray — if you need help, we're coming.”
Look, some people bail when they realize Devons need extra baths or they fart under the blankets. But abandonment is never, ever okay. We're building a community of cat lovers who refuse to look away. Wanna help? Even sharing this story saves lives. 🧡
